简介:This study presents an alternative to reading poetry in English through the analysis of recurringwater metaphors in Conchitina R. Cruz’s poems. This uses the cognitive model of George Lakoff and MarkJohnson on orientational metaphors within the purview of Gary Palmer’s framework for cultural linguistics.Results in this study show that they feature an up and down schema, which allows readers to tie it to the writer’sworld views and affirm her identity as a Filipino.
