Temple Fairs or miaohui are as much part of the Chinese New Year celebrations as fireworks and family gatherings. For visitors to China, they are a must see.
They are usually held in public parks or in Buddhist or Taoist temple grounds and are an intoxicating blend of music, dance, costumes, games, entertainment, shopping for knick-knacks and food. Some of the entertainment is quite unique.
Here a single person wears a bright costume designed to look like two people and dances, argues and fights with himself to the delight of the crowd who are warmed by the humorous exchanges on a cold winter¡¯s day.
